Love That Lasts : How we discovered God's Better Way for Love, Dating, Marriage and Sex by Jeff and Alyssa Bethke - Book review #7

I enjoy reading a good story or even a good self-help book. My last book review was Heidi  way back in Sept 2013. As I try to revive this blog, I would like to share more reviews like I used to back then because my love for reading hasn't died down(along with some new content as well).

Sometime last year(2017) I had the opportunity to read this book Jefferson and Alyssa Bethke. Jeff Bethke is popular through a viral video he posted way back in 2012 called "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus"

I wrote a short review for it in Goodreads on Sept 01st 2017 and here is a version of it:

Love that lasts challenges us to look past our feelings and common portrayals of love/ romantic relationships in the media –( such as having multiple sexual partners before settling down into marriage) – and to want God’s best design for love, marriage & sex. It also teaches us about the gift of God’s grace, if one has actually drifted away from this design in the past.

Jeff and Alyssa’s distinct histories in love relationships would allow most anyone to relate to at least one/ some of their stories. (one who grow up in church from the beginning and one who joined in later).

The book teaches us to look out for, wait for, fight for and communicate a lot with our significant other.

It also throws light on common issues in relationships such as commitment issues, unrealistic expectations, break-ups etc. & on how they dealt with the ones each of them faced – ultimately pushing through them to build a Christ-centered relationship and marriage. They get real about the costs of pornography, difficult/ traumatic pasts and how we view our selves and what it does to our relationships.

The book brought out a lot of deep issues in my heart, the ones I had been battling with for years - including trust issues and this quote has stuck with me ever since I read it :

“The very same thing that can destroy us—human relationships—also has the power to heal us.”
*I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher.

Both of them post vlogs together and short videos on topics that God has placed on their hearts on their Youtube channel (E.g. Relationship Advice,  Questions related to the Christian Faith) that I had been following for a while before I saw the call for applications to be a part of the extended Book Launch team of sorts on their Instagram - which I jumped on immediately.
This has been a fun throwback! Hope you have a great rest of the day/night dear reader.

Best,
-Jeffy
